Apple hasn’t released any new iPads for a while now. The last ones, the M2 iPad Pro and the iPad 10, came out in October last year. People have been talking about when Apple will tell us about new iPads and which ones they’ll make better. Now, we’ve learned from sources that there are going to be several new iPads in the next few months, including the iPad mini 7 and two new iPad Air models.
iPad mini 7 and 11th generation iPad
In December 2022, a smart person named Ming-Chi Kuo told us that Apple is making a new iPad mini. We think it’ll come out in late 2023 or early 2024. Someone else who knows a lot about Apple stuff, ShrimpApplePro, said the same thing. Our sources say that Apple is still planning to bring out the iPad mini 7, but we don’t know exactly when.
The new iPad mini will probably look like the one we have now, but it’ll have a faster chip inside. Right now, the iPad mini 6 came out in September 2021 and uses the A15 Bionic chip, which is the same one in the iPhone 13.
Apple has also been trying out a new version of the regular iPad, which they call J126b. Last year, they made the 10th generation iPad, which looks like the iPad Air and has a USB-C port. But inside, it has the A14 Bionic chip. The new regular iPad will probably just get better specs compared to the one we have now.
New iPad Air and M3 iPad Pro
Apple might have big plans for the iPad Air. Our sources say they’ve been testing two new iPad Air versions, called J507 and J508. They’ll probably replace the iPad Air 5 and have a new chip inside.
There were reports about this in June too. Apple is also working on other iPads called J537 and J538, which are based on the iPad Air. Right now, only the iPad Pro comes in two sizes, 11 and 12.9 inches, but it looks like Apple might want to make a bigger iPad Air or a fancier one with better stuff inside. We don’t know for sure because Apple’s plans can change.
Of course, there’s also a new iPad Pro on the way with an M3 chip. There will be two sizes: 11-inch and a bigger one.
A New Magic Keyboard
Apple is making a new Magic Keyboard for the iPad. It will make the iPad look more like a laptop. The new Magic Keyboard will be made of aluminum instead of plastic, and the trackpad will be bigger. Our sources say this too. The new Magic Keyboard is called R219 (the current one is called R1x), and it has new sensors, including one called an accelerometer. We expect Apple to show it to us when they talk about the new iPad Pro.
The Future of iPadOS
All these new iPads will come with a new version of iPadOS 17. That means Apple will probably tell us about them sometime between now and June 2024 when they usually talk about new stuff at WWDC.
