Google Pixel 7: A Hit or Miss?

The Google Pixel 7 is one of the few affordable flagship smartphones in the Pixel series. Coming to its specialty, the phone comes upgraded with a few features from its predecessor. Having said that, it offers a new range of camera features that can be a game-changer for the buyers. So, is the Google Pixel 7 worth the price? Let’s find out.

Pixel 7 Design and Display

The Pixel 7 is sure to grab your attention as the Pixel 7 Pro does. One of the few benefits of the phone’s miniaturised design is that it feels more comfortable to use. The rounded frame will certainly satisfy buyers who use their hands a lot. On top of that, the Pixel 7 supports wireless charging. It also has IP68 water resistance and Corning’s Gorilla Glass Vex on both the back and front.

In terms of display, the Pixel 7 has an FHD+ OLED panel with a 90Hz refresh rate. The Pixel 7 dynamically adjusts its refresh rate based on the content being shown on the screen. The OLED panel on the Pixel 7 is 6.3-inches in size and has a brightness of 1,000 nit outdoors and 1,400 nit for HDR media. However, the refresh rate of Pixel 7 drops or reaches its peak brightness according to the environment it’s exposed to.

Pixel 7 Cameras

The Pixel 7 is equipped with a 50MP primary sensor and an ultra-wide 12MP sensor with 114-degree field of view (FoV). For selfies, there is an 8MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear-facing camera. It’s no surprise that the Pixel 7 is able to capture beautiful images in the daytime that are rich in detail. The 50MP primary sensor on the Pixel 7 doesn’t add with overly dramatic colours, but rather turns a photo over with reasonably realistic hues. There is no telephoto lens on the Pixel 7, but can crop its main sensor 2x, resulting in zoomed images.

The Pixel 7’s nightscape mode works well at night to enhance the details of a low-lit area. The selfie camera on the Pixel 7 is just as good as the main one. The 10.8-megapixel sensor takes stunning selfies with precise skin tones and plenty of facial detail. The smartphone’s portrait selfie feature also works well, creating a beautiful bokeh that makes the subject stand out even more.

Pixel 7 Performance

The Pixel 7 isn’t great, but it’s not bad, either. The phone is powered by the Google’s latest Tensor G2 SoC, which is great but not the fastest chipset. It’s reasonably fast, and buyers looking at the set will be able to play high-end games at decent graphics and frame-rates. It’s also not bogged down by CPU throttling, either. The handset also tends to not warm up quickly even after putting load on it. So, while the Pixel 7 isn’t the fastest phone out there, it’s still pretty good.

The Google Pixel 7 runs on the latest version of the Android 13 operating system, and is equipped with a battery capacity of 4.355mAh. This provides users with a satisfactory battery life of approximately five hours of System On Time (SoT). However, if you play heavy games like BGMI, the battery decreases sooner than normal use. Furthermore, the charging speed of the Pixel 7 is quite slow, with a maximum of 20W for both wired and wireless charging.
